Starting a Summer Internship Program-Part 2

It was kind of crazy but before we even got here to Visalia I started getting names of young adults sent to me that had either been a part of the ministry in the past or were interested in interning for the first time this summer.  So we decided, that with all the unstableness of transitioning and with everything else that we knew we would have to do in the coming weeks and months, why not go ahead and take the first couple of weeks to develop a strong internship program for these incredible young leaders to get plugged into.

So I took the past week or two to develop a game plan of what this internship program could look like and ran those ideas past some of the Veteran Leadership Team Members of the church to get their feedback.

What we came up with is a three-step approach.

Step One - Spiritual Training (which I talked about in my last blog)

Step Two - Leadership Training

Step Three - Ministry Training

Today I’ll layout what we are going to do to train our interns in Leadership.

Our Spiritual Training piece is more small group and discussion oriented, so we thought it would be best to do our leadership training in more of a lecture format.

Each Thursday we will take one hour to pour principles into our students. They then will have the opportunity to take the principles they have heard in the training session and apply them in their everyday responsibilities in ministry.

Here are the ten leadership sessions we will cover.

   1) Why are you in Ministry?

   2) Three steps to reaching the next generation.

   3) Top ten tips for communicating to teenagers.

   4) Discipleship is not an Option.

   5) Seven keys to growth.

   6) Ten mindsets that will kill your ministry.

   7) Real World Rules.

   8) Navigating the Ministry Roller Coaster.

   9) What your leader wants from you.

   10) Raising up Kings and Queens in Ministry.

I’ve got to say that with everything else we will be doing this summer, I am already looking forward to spending Thursday afternoons with our young leaders, bringing these principles to life and playing a small part in who they will become as believers.
