Forgetting the Mountain.
Lining the east side of city of Visalia is the Sequayah Mountain Range. For a guy from the flat midwest the snow capped mountain tops are absolutely breath taking. When I first arrived in town my eyes were always fixed on the mountain. When I drove into the city for the first time they were all I looked at. When I woke up in the morning, I glanced out my window and just stared. Off and on every day I found myself gazing up and being amazed at the greatness of God’s creation.
After living here for a few weeks, I’ve found that I look at the mountain less and less. In fact there have been times driving down the road or walking out of my office where it catches me off guard - “wow, there’s a mountain here - I totally forgot”
Getting my eyes so focused on, buildings, streets, people, and the issues of everyday I fail to take the time to see the masterpiece that God wants to me experience.
Lining at the outskirts of my heart there is a giant mountain range filled with grand ideas and visions that God has laid on my heart to do for Him. When I first received them I looked at them all the time, writing them down in notebooks and moleskins, I talked about them with people and prayed over them as I drove down the road.
However, if I am not careful it will be easy to get my eyes, my heart, so focused on facilities, meetings, and the mundane moments of ministry that I forget about the Mountain God wants me to climb for him.
Lord thank you for your Mountain. Thank you for your vision. As I live the life you have called me to live may I not only remember what you have called me to do, may I live it out for the glory of your name.
