WHAT we are talking about and WHY.

We had just come off of our first 3 Big Wednesday service and it was a great night.  Students had a lot of fun. Great buzz with our volunteers.  Now we needed to press onto the things that were next on our agenda for the summer.  Advertising next 3 Big Wednesday’s Back Yard BBQ, starting new Sunday Night Core Group Meetings, and building our team of volunteers for our new ministry launch in the fall.

We had our plate full.  I had a very good teaching series planned out, it was going to be a hybrid of a series I did while I was at Oneighty that I really liked called “Look at Life a whole new way”.  In this series we were going to help our students look at their life thru spiritual eyes rather than secular.  I loved the walk away points.  We were going to talk about LIFE – life is not a mirror it is a window of opportunity.  PARENTS – are not a roadblock they are a doorway.  MONEY – is not a toy it is a tool to build HIS kingdom.  SEX – is not a God or Gross, sex is a gift from our creator.

I really liked the series.  I really liked the topics.  I thought the students would like them as well.  However, the more I prayed about our future and what our students needed to hear, the more I was unsettled with the series.

LOOK AT LIFE A WHOLE NEW WAY put our students eyes on themselves - their Life, their parents, their money, and their dating life.  This is not a bad thing, in fact students need to take stock on their life from time to time, however, in the season we are in as a student ministry, young with a lot of new students attending for the first time, I kept hearing God say “Get their eyes off themselves and help them get their eyes on me.”  So two days before the LOOK AT LIFE A WHOLE NEW WAY series was supposed to begin … I canned it all and we started over.

I met with my crew and told them we are going a different direction.  We are going to spend four weeks not looking at who we are and how our life can be better – but on who God is and how we should respond to his goodness.

The series I am going to teach our students is titled … GOD IS LOVE.

In this series we are going to take a look at the characteristics of our creator.  Not only looking at the core of who he is (LOVE) but looking at how we should respond and interact with Him.

Week One – God is GOOD.

Week Two – God is PROTECTOR.

Week Three – God is PROVIDER.

Week Four – God is LORD.

I am really exited about the next four weeks.  Just like Look at Life a Whole New Way, this series is going to be extremely interactive and memorable, but it places our emphasis on HIM rather than US and I’ve found in my life that whether you are building a ministry, a family or a life … GOD is always the best place to start.

Note - If your interested in getting my notes from GOD IS LOVE emailed to you each week – just drop me an email and I will send them your way every Thursday morning.
