My First Year

My favorite part of last night’s service.

I really enjoyed last nights youth service.

We had a High Five Hallway - where our volunteers stood at each side of the door creating a tunnel for students to walk thru while getting high fives and hearing our workers cheer for them.

We had a nice worship set after the service - in which my son Jordan led - it was his first time leading worship here at the student ministry and he did a very good job - which was really cool to see.

We had a very interactive message - where we illustrated God’s love using a volunteer, giant wooden fence, water balloons, tomatoes, and a paint ball gun.  (If you want the details of how we used it - I’ll send you my notes if you like)

We had a game of dodge-ball after the service - which the students really loved and our workers entered into very well.

We had a very good night.

But the thing I loved the most.  My favorite part of last nights service was when I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with four students I had never met before.  It was during the Dodge-Ball game and these four were not playing, they were just sitting at some of the tables we have sitting out for our little outdoor cafe area.  I came up to them, introduced myself and simply sat their talking to them about school, summer plans, and what they were into.

It was great hearing their story.

Three of them came to our Slip-N-Slide Night and liked it so they came back again last night to check the group out. They even signed up to be a part of our Sunday Night Core Group Meetings that we are starting this week.

They were really cool people and I’m looking forward to having them be a part of our family here at VFA.

I love student ministry … but after all of these years my favorite part of student ministry is the students … I guess that is a good thing.
