God is our Protector

Last night we were in week two of our four-week series GOD IS LOVE. I talked about how that God is good and because of that he wants to protect us, to shield us from harm.

The scriptures teach in Psalms 34:8 – Taste and se that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who finds refuge in Him.
I wanted our students to know that because God is good he offers us refuge from the attacks of the wicked one. God wants to protect us from fights, stress, arguments, break ups, addictions, diseases and every other thing the Devil wants to throw at us.

Just like an earthly father protects his little children by telling them – don’t take things that don’t belong to you, stay out of the street, or don’t touch the hot stove. God our heavenly father protects us by the rules, the commandments we find in scripture. Children obey your parents. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Don’t get involved physically until you are married. These are rules our father gives us out of his love for us, out of his desire to protect us to shield us from harm.

The way we keep out of harms way is by obeying God. When we obey him it is like walking behind a giant wall of his love. When we disobey Him we walk out from behind his protection and are open to all the things our enemy wants to throw our way.
Last night I illustrated this point to our students. One of my student volunteers captured it on video and sent it to me.

Now I have to be honest and say I thought really long and hard about not showing this video. Our lighting was not right for video, the sound was not right for video, I did a decent job with the illustration but didn’t feel like I landed the plane all the way. But you know what – ministry is not about me, our lights or the quality of our sound…it is about people, so if you seeing this video gives you some creative ideas on how you can share the teachings of Jesus with teenagers … then I might as well show it.

So here you go.

This is how we illustrated one of the ways our God protects us.
