College Ministry - part one

Since we arrived in Visalia a few months ago,  we have been running hard toward what God is calling us to do to bring teenagers to Jesus.

While we’ve been pushing and planning for the Student Ministry we’ve also been praying and seeking God for His vision for our College Ministry here at VFA.  We currently have a small group ministry for this age group and the students that attend really enjoy it. However, Visalia has a local Junior College and the Central Valley is crawling with 20somethings, most of which need an authentic relationship with Jesus and the community that can only be found in Him.

So this fall we are going to launch a brand new College Age Ministry.

To be honest I feel that I have a very strong plan on what we need to do to be effective at not only reaching out to this age group but also assimilating them into the local body. However, I am 40 years old, have four kids and drive a mini-van.  For me to think that I understand everything that a single 20something needs, wants and is looking for in a church or their walk with Christ would be extremely naive and arrogant of me.

So this Saturday night I am going to meet with 25 or so young people to share the vision, get their response and allow them to not only tweak it, but also be a part of developing this new venue from scratch.

I’m really looking forward to this meeting, hearing their ideas and seeing God’s plan come to life in our area.

I will post on Sunday how the meeting went and what we are going to do in this ministry.

Here are some questions for you.

Do you do a ministry to College Age young people?

What do you do?  (email me - I’d love to hear it)

Have you defined the win for this ministry?

Is what you are doing getting you a win?

What three things need to change in order to make this ministry really take off?
