The goal of our College Age Ministry.
The goal of our College Age Ministry is not to help College age kids find good christians to date. We are not a dating service, we are a church.
The goal of our College Age Ministry is not get a lot of 20something attending our College Age Service.
The goal is to get College Age students to accept and surrender to the Lordship of Jesus and find their identity by finding their place in the body of Christ.
The goal we have set has defined how we are going to serve this very unique age group. Here is what we are going to do.
MONTHLY MEGA MEETING
One time each month we will have a mega meeting (service) for as many 20somethings as we can fit into our auditorium. During this service we will keep it simple. We will worship Jesus, preach Jesus and build community.
We will hold this meeting at our second campus that has a 700 seat auditorium, out-door courtyard, gym and out-door grass area for hanging out as well.
We will do this thing up big. Bring in guest bands or guest speakers from time to time using this night as a doorway into the local church, inviting the attendees to join us at our 5pm Saturday Night Service Event
Saturday Night Service Event
VFA has a 5pm Saturday Night service that we will begin to utilize for our 20somethings. We want to make this the place to be on Saturday night for this age group, saying come on out to the 5pm service and afterword we are having a giant BBQ, or come out to 5pm service and afterword we have rented the entire Movie Theatre, or come on out to 5pm service and afterward we are going to take-over Applebees. (you get the picture)
20somethings are out hanging with friends, going out to eat and seeing movies on Saturday Night anyways - so why not get them to meet up at church and give them a chance to have a great time afterward.
As more and more begin to attend this service, we will work to release the greeters, ushers, and service host teams over to them. Giving them ownership of this evenings worship experience.
WEEKLY SMALL GROUP MEETINGS
Each week we will build community and break down biblical texts together in our small group venues all across the Central Valley. In these meetings we will take the topic we discussed at the BIG SERVICE at the beginning of the month and break it down into discussion points.
I know this is not some amazing game plan that has never been thought of before, but our goal is not to be unique or trend-setting with this ministry. Our goal is to get College Age students to accept and surrender to the Lordship of Jesus and find their identity by finding their place in the Body of Christ.
We think these three steps will help us do just that.
